    Description

D-Luciferin potassium salt is the bioluminescent substrate of firefly luciferase. In the presence of ATP, oxygen, and magnesium ions, luciferase catalyzes the oxidation of D-luciferin to oxyluciferin, producing yellow-green light (560 nm). It is widely used in luciferase reporter gene assays, in vivo bioluminescence imaging, cell viability assays, and ATP detection. The potassium salt form offers improved water solubility and stability compared to the free acid.

    Biological activity
Biological target: Firefly luciferase bioluminescent substrate for reporter assays and in vivo imaging
In vitro activity: Emission wavelength: λmax ≈ 560 nm (yellow-green) in vitro; Quantum yield: ~0.41 photons/molecule under optimal conditions; Reaction: firefly luciferase (FLuc) catalyzes ATP-, Mg²⁺-, and O₂-dependent oxidation; Kinetics: peak within seconds; light output proportional to luciferase concentration when substrate is in excess; Sensitivity: ATP detection down to femtomole range; cell detection LOD <10² cells/well; Linearity: 5–6 orders of magnitude; Solubility: potassium salt form is readily water-soluble; Applications: luciferase reporter gene assays, ATP detection, cell viability, high-throughput screening
