    Description

Geldanamycin (NSC 122750, Antibiotic TAN 420) is a potent inhibitor of heat shock protein 90 (HSP90) that binds to the ATP‑binding pocket and inhibits its ATPase activity in a dose‑dependent manner. It causes G2 arrest in A2780 ovarian cancer cells and reduces mutated p53 levels. Geldanamycin is a benzoquinone ansamycin antibiotic first isolated from Streptomyces hygroscopicus var. geldanus. In research, it is used as a tool to study HSP90 chaperone function, protein folding, and as a lead compound for developing HSP90 inhibitors (e.g., 17‑AAG) in cancer research.
